The industrial space occupied by The Gersh Agency in Manhattan was felt by the clients to be cold and dated - more like a bank than a hip Manhattan talent agency. The waiting area and conference room, where visitors spend their time, required an infusion of warmth while maintaining both sophistication and livability. The clients wanted to showcase the spectacular city view the building offered. They realized that these two rooms would make the first impression, and that it needed to be a lasting, positive one. SPI painted the walls stark white and, to add contrast and interest, added a light grey stripe that wraps the reception area and continues into the conference room. The brass door hardware was plated in brushed nickel to complement the overall color scheme. Furnishings were chosen to be streamlined and minimalist, in keeping with the architecture of the building. The office endures a high level of wear and tear, so SPI utilized vinyl rugs, commercial grade fabrics, and a glass top coffee table. A banquette, constructed of the same beechwood as the desk and Prouve chairs in the reception area, was added in the conference room to maximize seating. A flat-screen television was wall mounted above a custom cabinetry unit that hides all of the electronic components and video conferencing devices. |
