Venice Canals Modern

2627 sq ft

This contemporary two-story home, last remodeled in 1999 by architect John Reed, has fantastic views of the waterway and is in close proximity to the beach.

After an extensive remodel of the exterior, SPI was brought in to create a home where the client could entertain friends. In the living room, the fireplace was enlarged and resurfaced with grey Caesarstone, and the flooring throughout the ground level was ebonized to contrast with the stark white walls..

All of the furnishings in the dining room were inspired by SPI's recent travels to Japan. SPI fabricated the 11'-6" dining table from a solid piece of salvaged black walnut. A shelf that runs the length of the room serves as a buffet and also as an area for wine tasting. The east wall features two Donald Judd cubes in red and stainless steel.

Kitchen countertops are of grey Caesarstone. Bendheim opaque mirrored glass inserts comprise the kitchen cabinetry.

SPI outfitted the guest bedroom with vintage pieces, including George Nelson night tables and a classic Saarinen womb chair. The home office features built-in bookshelves and desks as well as a large walk-in closet for extra storage.

In the master bedroom, SPI custom designed a 10' high four-poster bed made of ebonized white oak with an upholstered headboard. To complete the large patio that overlooks the canals, SPI added an Ipe wood deck, an outdoor fireplace and a solid teak Japanese soaking tub.
