Co-chaired by Sarah Shetter and Alison Palevsky, this fundraiser for the Decorative Arts Council brought awareness of sustainable design to a select group of patrons and supporters. The program consisted of a dinner and lecture on August 19, 2006, at the Venice, California, home of Lawrence Scarpa and Angela Brooks, architects and co-principals in the design firm Pugh + Scarpa Architecture. Mr. Scarpa, winner of seven national AIA awards and a passionate advocate of environmentally sound design principles, spoke about the importance of design in the quest for sustainability. Tours of the home, "Solar Umbrella," preceded the dinner. An intimate group of supporters of the DAC gathered to learn about using renewable resources, alternative energy sources, and environmentally neutral materials, key factors in designs of the future, and important factors in advancing LACMA's commitment to contemporary art and design.
